March 24, 2012, the Madison County Education Foundation will host its
first major fund-raiser, “March Madness Comes to Madison,” at Graves
Mountain Lodge Pavilion. Come to watch the games on big
screen TVs while you enjoy a delicious Graves dinner (fried chicken and
pork barbeque). Silent and live auctions will take place. Bring you
checkbooks. You're bound to find many things you'll want to bid on.
Tickets to the March Madness event are $60 per person. Proceeds from the event will fund teacher mini-grants and student scholarships. A flyer with more details and reservation form are available in the main office. Please complete forms and mail them to MCEF, P.O. Box 1277, Madison VA 22727. The Cultural Studies class at the High School is hosting a clothing drive until February 10th. Please donate gently used clothes (For example – jeans, hoodies, shirts, shorts, etc.) The winning homeroom of each grade level will receive an ice cream party. All donations will be made to our local MESA. Madison County Parks and Rec softball registration is going on now. Every Tuesday in February from 6 to 8 p.m. parents can register players at McDonalds. Cost is $45 (after February 29th cost will be $50). The draft will take place on March 10th. If you have any questions contact the Madison County Parks and Rec Office at 948-6887. The Yearbook Club will be hosting the Valentine's Dance Friday, February 10, 2012 from 3:15 until 5:15. Ticket cost will be $5. Refreshments and water will be on sale. The Boys JV/Varsity Basketball games scheduled for Friday, January 20th against Central Woodstock have been postponed to Monday, January 23rd due to the weather forecast for tonight. after school. 6th and 7th Grade US History, 8th Grade Civics and Science SOL Testing Notification: On February 15th our 6th and 7th grade student will take their US History SOL Test. On February 16th our 8th grade students will take their Civics and Science SOL Test. It is important that all students who are to test on either day, be present. This will ensure they can test with their peers and move on to their next class on the following day. Please take note of the fact that we will do our best to administer any necessary make up tests as quickly as we can since the testing window closes on the 24th. There will be no middle school basketball game on Wednesday, January 18th. Boys
and girls middle school games will be on Thursday, January 19th. Middle school
cheerleaders are to report to the gym right after school on Thursday.

James Madison University is hosting Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) conference that is a free one-day conference aimed at girls in grades 7th-10th . The girls will each participate in exciting, hands-on workshops organized by JMU mathematics and statistics faculty and attend a keynote speech by a prominent woman scientist. The goals of the conference are to stimulate the participants' interest in math and science through these hands-on activities, to provide them with female scientist role models, and to foster awareness of opportunities in math and science-related careers. All participants will receive a free breakfast and lunch, and students receive a free t-shirt for participating. The 2012 EYH Conference will be on March 24, 2012 at James Madison University.
